About

Sketchy hounds is a range of cute and colourful dog themed illustrated items,
designed by illustrator and designer Liz Pengilley.

Since rescuing my dog called Denzel (a Lurcher x Springer Spaniel) and seeing his quirky ways I found myself sketching him (mainly asleep!) and he helped me find my love of hand drawn illustrations.

From this, I started drawing other dogs, and then became a little bit obsessed in drawing lots of dogs capturing their unique characteristics!

All my work is initially hand drawn in the traditional way using pencil or pen, sketched onto paper. My designs are then brought to life digitally in a bright and happy vector style.

At the start of 2020 I set up an online store on Etsy selling cards, bookmarks and prints. This has grown into this dedicated space to sell my designs as well as posts about the things that I am doing with my work (and about Denzel of course!) Since starting my Etsy store, I can also be found on other online stores, including Not on the High Street.

All my products are designed in my home studio in Cornwall, and are printed in the UK. I have many more ideas for hound designs with new ranges, so watch this space.

About Denzel

Of course, it would be very rude not to introduce Denzel, the original Sketchy Hound.

This is Denzel, the first day we got him in 2014, when he was a nearly 7 month old pup. He was so much smaller then, and so began the journey of having our very first rescue dog for me and my Husband. I have always had rescue dogs in the family since I was 7, and when I saw Denzel available, I knew he would be part of our family.

Denzel is the main source of inspiration behind Sketchy Hounds, the way he sleeps, runs and plays have all been starting points to my designs. Which is why most of my illustrations are based on Sighthounds (Whippets, Lurchers, Greyhounds).

He never fails to amuse me with his silly personality, he sleeps a lot (typical Lurcher), but when he plays, he plays, and is my constant companion all day.
